December 1, 2024 marked the one-year anniversary of the full release of MetaReviewer. Like we did for our six-month anniversary, we want to take a moment to reflect on our achievements and the community we have built. We appreciate your support as a user and are committed to making continual, sustained improvements.

MetaReviewer’s Community

Our community of users is and will continue to be our most valuable asset. We have added 604 new users in the past year, increasing our community from 317 to well over 900. Additionally, we now host 494 active projects that have supported the screening and coding of thousands of studies and calculation of thousands of effect sizes. Needless to say, MetaReviewer is in the regular rotation for evidence synthesists around the world on a variety of projects. Keep an eye out for featured projects in our Project Spotlight: Meta in Motion series.

MetaReviewer’s Ongoing Commitment to Solving User Issues

We designed MetaReviewer to be user-friendly and accessible for novice and seasoned evidence synthesists alike. However, as with any software program, questions and bugs inevitably arise. That’s why we created a Help Desk team to field user questions as they come up. Our Help Desk response time is typically less than two business days, ensuring any potential questions or hiccups won’t disrupt long-term project progress. And we frequently update the MetaReviewer User Guide so that tips and best practices are documented in a central location for easy reference.

If you are new to MetaReviewer or if it’s been a while since you used it, this is your reminder to connect with us via the Help Desk (metareviewer@air.org). During our #NewYearNewReview series in early 2024, we described how to write a great Help Desk request. This is also a useful resource for documenting and sending Help Desk requests to other software, so bookmark it for continued use!

MetaReviewer’s Resource Library

MetaReviewer should be a tool that everyone feels comfortable using, but even the most frequent user surely doesn’t know every aspect of the application. That’s why, along with MetaReviewer’s Full Release, we launched the MetaReviewer Learn page. Our 20 posts in the last year cover a range of topics, from hierarchical relational databases, to managing citations, to training coders. We also added a new series called Project Spotlight: Meta in Motion, where we feature individual projects to illustrate the broad array of features available to MetaReviewer users. Our most recent post is about using MetaReviewer for non-quantitative projects.

MetaReviewer’s Next Set of Enhancements

We have several new and exciting enhancements that are planned for release in January 2025. Be on the lookout for emails and blog posts over the next several weeks to learn more.

Again, thank you for being part of MetaReviewer’s community. Your participation has been crucial to our success. We are committed to creating and maintaining a high-quality application that is free for our users. Here’s to a successful 2024 and looking forward to a great 2025!
